Exhibition Statement

The Silver Thread weaves through this collection as both a material and a metaphor. Silver leaf glimmers across the work, symbolizing the hidden treasures woven into everyday life — the interplay of shadow and light, the tension between restriction and freedom, the balance of giving and taking. These pieces act as mirrors, offering fragments of the shared human experience.

The exhibition features large-scale mixed media canvases and a limited series of Sarasota-inspired photographs, each layered with depth, texture, and energy that shifts from playful to intense to contemplative. Together, they invite viewers to look closer — to find connection in contrasts, and to follow the subtle thread that connects us all.

About the Artist

Jess Domain is a multidisciplinary artist living in New York City whose work spans mixed media painting, photography, and performance. With a background in music and theatre, her visual art carries a strong sense of rhythm, layering, and storytelling. Domain’s current practice blends photography with paint and silver leaf, creating works that explore dualities: permanence and fragility, freedom and restraint, the visible and the unseen.

Her work has been exhibited in New York, Connecticut and Florida, with The Silver Thread marking her debut solo exhibition at Art Ovation Hotel.

Technique

Each work in The Silver Thread is built through a layered process that blends photography with painting and metal leaf, though the exact combination of materials varies from piece to piece. Some begin with original photographs printed on canvas and are further developed with oil or acrylic paint; others incorporate alcohol inks for translucency or the reflective shimmer of silver and black metal leaf.

What unites them is their dynamic surface: hand-applied layers that interact with light, shifting in appearance throughout the day. No two pieces can ever be repeated — every application falls differently, every reflection catches uniquely. Using archival inks, professional-grade paints, and genuine metal leaf, Jess Domain creates works that are designed to endure, while offering collectors a singular experience each time they are seen.
